Hey everyone! So I was thinking I definitely need to give everyone an update on everything awesome that happened in Africa and how things are with the transition to college. soo…

My trip to Africa, was basically one of the best things I have ever experienced. As the plane landed and we were driven to our compound, I could not believe that we were actually in Liberia. We met tons of people, including the Bishop! We became his special guests at many different events, very cool. Meeting the staff, teachers, and students of the school was really awesome. I loved being able to sign with them and learning new signs and different styles. Totally cool!! The kids were all such great participants in VBS, they loved the simple things like coloring. We tried to play soccer with them, but they were ridiculously good! We introduced frisbee to them, they picked it up quite well and had fun with it. They loved getting their pictures taken with us. We all became very attached to them and were sad to leave them. We all came back with plenty of pictures, souvenirs, and stories. Gods love was felt so strongly over there, these kids who struggled everyday just to survive were so thankful for us coming. And how hard they were working to help with their school was unbelievable, I can never take the things I have for granted. Someday I hope to go back and see these people again.

After coming back home, the first stop was a BK for the hungry travelers who wanted anything that didn’t have rice in it. I then spent a day home getting ready to leave for college. Wow, what a turn around! I was running on auto-pilot it seemed, I couldn’t really believe everything that was happening. But, it was all so amazing. I moved into my dorm finally, with no worries of my roommate, I knew she would be awesome. I was worried about what I would forget, where and when I was going to put everything in my room. How I was going to fight jet lag, how everything flowed here, who I was going to hang out with…I felt like I knew no one. The school threw us into Welcome Week activities and somewhere in all the fun I caught up on sleep, managed to buy most of my text books, settle in and find some great friends. As classes started, everyone was freaking out, there was no routine yet and all those syllabi…slightly overwhelming. I almost lost my sight of God in some of this my focus wasn’t on him, It was on myself. I was struggling through the week, not getting enough sleep and not having focus on anything. So I finally decided to go for a run, then I attended worship with my dorm, and went to the FCA meeting. It all brought me back, straight back to God. I had finally slowed my life down enough to hear God.

Here’s some questions and thoughts to think about:

Why do we seem to lose our focus so many times? What can you do to keep your focus on God? Take time to STOP and listen to what God may be trying to tell you.

I miss you all and will be writing again soon…hopefully!

P.S. wow, sorry that was long people, kudoos to those who stuck it out and read that whole thing!

The problems, well some are really tough and others are really minor but we’ve blown it up because there is just to much right now. We have to rememeber that we can’t go through these tough times alone. Weather it be that we have our teammates sitting next to us , our family surrounding us with unconditional love, a friend for a sholder to cry on or a big hug from someone you love. We have to stick together, like peanut butter and jelly. Imagine this, you have a pb&j sandwich, there is absolutlely no way to completely separate the two from each other after the sandwich is made. There will always be a little bit of jelly still in the penut butter and visa versa. Then the bread, well that’s God protecting and comforting us. He is the biggest and the best part of the sandwich (well for me) and he is the biggest and best thing in life (for everyone)! God has given us each other and he wants us to make tons of PB&J together. We can all find comfort within eachother and in our community of faith.

This past week has been pretty relaxing for me. Track just finished and I have more time after school and on the weekends. All this time I now have makes me take a step back and think….I start to see things different because I have more time to process and think about them. For example, just recently, I’ve started talking to a friend from workcamp again, I met him in Buffalo, NY 2 years ago, hadn’t talked to him in over a year. Yet he remembers almost everything we did and everything that I told him during that one week we spent together! I was very impressed… and then I felt like an idiot because the I couldn’t even remember what town he was from (I was lucky, I could at least remember what state he lived in!) But, then our conversation went on and he admitted that his church had gotten our wheel that we all traded and that’s how he remembered what town I was from; because it sits in his sunday school room and he sees it every week. This makes me wonder are there other kids that also look at that wheel and remember one of us that they met? better yet….do any of us see those things in our youth room? I know I do…but, that’s because I put it there…would I if I hadn’t been the one to place those things in those spots? Honestly, I don’t know…but, I have begun to look at the things in our church and wondered where they came from. There could be a good story behind something, you never know. Next time you’re in the parsonage, look for the cross that sits behind the couch….did you even know it was there? or how about the wheel as your coming down the stairs? or the two crosses on the wall made out of records? I’m sure there’s a story behind almost everything that’s up there and there’s even more in the church. Just step back and see what you’re looking at, not just look at it, and then ask. The worst answer you can get is, “No, there isn’t any special meaning or story to that. It’s just pretty!”

Its December! The cold, snow(if we ever get any that is), no school, cookies, lots of food and Christmas is here! Everyone is shopping, waiting to open thier christmas presents, baking, and so much more. Here’s a surprise for you, none of this is what the christmas season is all about. Yes, it is what happens and what comes at this time of year. But, take a step back and look at the real reason for the season, CHRIST! It would all be completely different without him. One thing that I have noticed about Christmas time is that everyone gets caught up in what they are getting and what they want instead of what Christ wants us to do, GIVE. Him and God, are both all about more giving than recieving. God has given us almost all that he has, and all he asks for in return is that we love him and follow his commands. What has God given us? God gave his one and only son to us. God gives us forgiveness of our sins. God has even given us the land we live, walk, and sleep on. God gave us rules to live by. God has already given us a place in heaven with him. And. Christ has given us his life! Just so that we could be forgiven! As christians we are called to be like Christ. I mean dont literally give your life, but GIVE!!! Give someone a hug, give your younger a sibling a piece of your christmas candy. Its those little things of giving that make whoever gets them feel special and will want to give someone else that same feeling. Personally, I’ve been on both sides of this and no matter what it feel great!

Hey everybody! So, I went on the Revovle tour…and I had an amazing time! There were so many really cool speakers and singers it was unbelievable! We got to see KJ 52 and Hawk Nealson rock out! We had our hands on the air, dancing and screaming our hearts out to God! Just imagine a stadium of thousands of girls screaming, it was loud and powerful. We even got nosebleed seats! That part wasn’t so cool, but we lived through it and still got the whole experience! There was one speaker that really sticks out in my mind right now…her name was Jenna Lucado. She gave a great visual that I’m going to share with you…(and sorry guys if this relates more towards girls but, it was a girl conference and I am a girl…but ill try to tweak it for you a little bit.)

There are so many different names out there that everyone calls there dads…dad, daddy, pops, papa, father, padre…the list goes on…But, what picture do you see when you hear the word Dad?

Well, here’s what I see…

This picture comes to my mind right away! I’m out on a boat in the middle of a lake, his arms around me protecting me from the cold wind blowing by us, making me smile and laugh. And, with a really dorky looking kind of hat, meaning probably an even worse fashion sense, (but what dad actually does have a good fashion sense right?) I still love him and think hes the coolest, bestest, biggest dad I could ever have! This picture best represents my relationship that I have with my daddy. But, I now realize that some people aren’t this lucky. To have this great relationship thats colorful, bright, protective, and full of joy! For some people, a black and white picture shows up in their mind, sometimes they aren’t even facing eachother; the relationship is barely there because of emotional or physical abuse. For others, a picture comes up thats really blurry because thier dad isn’t in their life at all or hardly ever there so they don’t even know each other. Before I go to the big message behind all this, one more question. What picture shows up when you hear father?

Again, here’s what I see…

…an image, reminding me of God. The big daddy that everyone has. It’s so amazing to me to realize that I have two fathers that think I’m beautiful and will give it all for ME. I know God gave Jesus, a part of him, up for ME. God is not only my father but he’s al of yours too, and he thinks that your all beautiful and handsome! But, the best part is; your his, your his daddy’s girl or sonny boy(as my dad calls it.) He sees everything that your having trouble with and need help with. He is truly watching over you, being that protective, caring and loving father that everyone needs. So, no matter what…even if you dont have that kind of father here on earth. You have a dad in heaven just waiting for you to come to him so he can wrap his protective arms around you and give you a shoulder to cry on. I know I have that pair of arms around me. I hope that everyone gets to have at least that one pair of arms around them too, because its some of the most powerful and comforting arms ever! <3
