Finding your quiet place

this past weekend we talked about finding the quiet places and spaces in life. People had mentioned that they have quiet time when they are on the bus going to school, running, walking the dog, at workcamps, and a number of other times.

These quiet times offer great opportunities to be in prayer. We can use sentences from scripture as a prayer. Lately I have liked to pray and reflect on the first line of psalm 23 but with my own twist of “The Lord is my shepherd I have all I need.” For me this is a reminder that god has already given me all that I need and that I need to be aware of that.

We can also just listen for God in the quiet times. Spend time in quiet clearing your mind. When you feel like your mind begins to wonder one way or another guide it back to rest with a “sacred” word that makes you think about God. This word could be Spirit, Jesus, Lord, Abba, Father… the one that I use is nooma (this is the Greek word for wind or Spirit of God, and it works for me). There are tons of other ways to pray and find the quiet you just have to look for them. Try one out and you might just be surprised where you encounter God.

Be God’s–See you next week
